In 2018, the Centre for Law and the Environment established a relationship with Students for Mining Justice, a student group at UBC that works to bring awareness around mining injustices to UBC campus and to build a movement among youth, students and the university community around ending extractivism, resource imperialism and corporate unaccountability.

The Centre co-hosted and co-organized the Protecting the Land conference at Allard in October, 2018, which brought together lawyers, researchers, students and indigenous land defenders from the Americas to share powerful stories of injustice and resistance. The Centre continues to collaborate with Students for Mining Justice on events and initiatives of shared interest.
